Be better

Recently I had an argument with my older children, it is normal, it happens, but this time we did not understand on both sides why it happened or the solution.

Each side explained their position, exposing the details trying to clarify things, but no matter how hard each one tried we got nowhere.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know the thoughts that trouble me. Point out to me anything in me that offends you and lead me in the way of eternal life" Psalm 139:23-24.

During the long conversation, thinking we were getting nowhere, we would say between phrases "The Lord will reveal", "God will show us". Later, as we recapitulated what had happened, we realized that in one part of what had happened I had not been clear on a detail, and that omission of details led to great confusion and discussion; confusion leads to supposition, and supposition hurts the heart. When the mistake was exposed we all asked for forgiveness and the discussion was over.

As the years go by we grow in wisdom, knowledge but sometimes it is accompanied by our ego that limits us to keep learning, to improve. Learning or improving implies that we are ignorant in something or that we are not good at something, and that clashes with our ego.

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up with honor" James 4:10.

To humble ourselves is not to feel less, to humble ourselves is to recognize that we can be better, and that we can achieve it by the hand of God. God is wisdom, love, patience, goodness, strength; if we humbly declare that we lack any of these, we can obtain each of them from Him. Otherwise, closed in our own wisdom, we will close all the doors to be better.

Search me Oh God, reveal to me each thing that I need to perfect, to improve and I will only be able to achieve it from your hand Lord! Include in your prayers this petition to the Lord with a willing heart, and prepare yourself to humbly receive the formation of our father God, you can always be better, and that is the path to holiness.

God bless you!
