The addiction

"Pastor, Pastor, when does my process of re-socialization begin" Felipe asked me at the foundation, to which I replied "It began the day you arrived, because here you do not come to cleanse yourself of drugs only, it is necessary for you to ask yourself everything you did and stopped doing to end up here and what you must do to not fall back into the same thing and it does not end".

It is mistakenly thought that boys come to the foundation because of drugs; the drug is the last step in a chain of decisions and attitudes that lead to habitual substance use. Part of this was discussed in the previous blog "Bad Habits".

Our foundation is "Theo-Therapy", addiction problems are treated with specific therapies to the addict and complemented with the word of God, "What is impossible with man is possible with God" Luke 18:27. The Lord has all the tools so that no one falls into addiction and to maintain a healthy life free of any destructive habit.

So if addiction is not the problem, what is?

Drugs, or any kind of addiction, is a way to release pressure or need I have inside my chest or problem in my head, that I don't know what to do with or how to solve it. The daily drink, cigarettes, social networking, pornography, living from party to party, are examples of other addictions. "But I control it" No. 1 phrase in all the addict's books, means that we can all be classified as addicts, but most of us don't know it or don't recognize it.

Do I have to go to a foundation? No. The foundation is a space to get away, detoxify, recognize the addiction that led you to consume and discover tools to stay sober from your addiction. The process is lived inside and outside; it is wrong for the addict to believe that just by entering the foundation for a while he has overcome the problem; outside is where the real process begins.

Felipe's resocialization began with the questions: What behaviors led me to use? What negative feelings such as anger, pain, anguish, sadness or others overwhelm me? What positive activities such as sports, prayer, meditation, sleep, etc. do I do that help me to eliminate stress, anxiety, fatigue?

Felipe has been gradually identifying each of the things that led him to consume and those that he must implement to not do it again, this is his process of resocialization. And to keep in mind the number one factor for relapse, getting away from God. 100% of those who leave the foundation and do not follow an active spiritual life relapse.

Identify if you, or anyone around you, has any type of addiction that you "control" today before it gets out of control. In the next blog we will detail some tools that will help identify the habits of the addict.

God bless you!
