Each person has their priorities. For some, it's family, work, spiritual life, money, sports, video games, etc. How can we know if we have the right priorities in our life?
We live in a fast-paced world where there's hardly time to think to make the best decisions; you rely on your preparation, instinct, education, and ideals to make decisions to follow your path. How do we know if we're on the right path? How do we know if we've put the really important things first?
Priority comes from "prioritas," which means having the quality of being earlier or first.
For everyone, there's an order, a specific order for things to happen or work properly. Life, study, sports, cooking, everything. When I dress, I choose clothes and put them on in a logical order, otherwise, I'd end up looking like Superman, with my underwear on the outside.
Likewise in life, we can do things but the order in which we do them will affect the outcome.
How can we know what God's order is? What should our priorities be according to God's order?
"[33] For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, [40] but all things should be done decently and in order." - 1 Corinthians 14:33, 40
We all recognize, worship, and obey God; it's the principle of order. But putting God first implies putting everything that God entrusts to our administration and care first.
When God created Adam, He saw that it was not good for him to be alone and created Eve so that they could be together. This means that the couple is a priority of equal relevance for man and woman. Later on, it says to leave father and mother; the couple is above parents. Then it says to multiply; children come next. And then work. (Excerpt from Genesis 2:18, 24; 3:19; 9:7). Then it tells us not to love money, that we should honor the Sabbath day (not everything is work), and that everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial, because staying up late for a soccer match might detract from our responsibilities at home; or going shopping or out for drinks with friends might spend money and time from our household. Let each one examine themselves!
Following God's order brings promise:
"It shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth." - Deuteronomy 28:1
Follow God's order and all will be well. If you find that you need to correct the order, do it promptly, don't delay it. God is great in mercy, but His law is always fulfilled; failing to comply leads to deserts, and to get out, the order must be corrected first.
God bless you!
Complementary verse: To know the consequences of not obeying God's law, read Deuteronomy 28:15-68.
