Do you wish everything would happen faster? Do you find it hard to wait for something to happen or for what was promised to arrive? Many times we want everything to happen faster, to happen now.

When I was in school, my best friend Andres Pellacini told me that if I wanted to speed up time so that it would pass faster I just had to do something with my hands: join the index finger and thumb of the opposite hand and rotate them. I did this several times trying to make the time pass, but all I did was burn time.

Everyone will say it's a lack of patience but it's really a lack of hope.

The word wait etymologically comes from the roots waiter which means "to hold back until something happens". Patience is an emotional state, waiting is the action. Patience is to have tranquility while it arrives, to wait is the action confident that it will happen. Patience and hope are fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5). Today we will talk about hope.

Those who like cooking and learn a good recipe, buy the ingredients and follow the instructions with HOPE that the result will be as expected. If not, they make the necessary corrections to the cooking time or portion size. Hope is that the result will come, patience is taking the time to do everything.

Just as in the kitchen, waiting on the Lord for his promises to arrive is the most important thing, because you have the certainty, the security, the faith that they will arrive.

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" Hebrews 11:1

What we hope for, the promises of the lord are detailed in the bible, you have to know them, otherwise, how do you know where you are headed or what outcome to expect?

In the Bible, the Lord mentions many promises and what we must do to achieve them. Unfortunately by hearsay we stay in the promise but we do not study the way to reach them or we do it half way. For example:

1. Resist the Devil and he will flee. This is an excerpt from James 4:7, you see the promise but half of the instruction because it says "Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee". The devil does not flee because you resist, but because God has instructed you by submitting to Him.

2. "God will give you the desires of your heart". This excerpt is from Psalm 37:4, the beautiful promise and half of the instruction because it says "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart". God is his word, his commandments, the bible, therefore to delight is to follow, love and fulfill his word, there the lord will grant because you will ask according to his word not your desires.

3. Pray for a car, a house, money or material things. In the bible it says "God knows your needs" (Matthew 6). These are not promises, God knows what you need and will give you according to how you advance in your spiritual life.

That is why it is so important to read the word, to know his promises and the instructions to achieve them. Vainly we pray, we fast waiting for the promise to come, which ends in disappointment because we did not do what we had to do, follow the instructions.

Read the Bible, its verses, know the promises of the Lord; meditate, pray, ask for direction, patience and strength to the Holy Spirit to follow the instructions and you will see the promises of God fulfilled in your life. Do not accelerate the process, the promises come, believe it, God does not lie.
