Now what?

It is Holy Saturday, prior to the resurrection of Jesus. For us it is easy to celebrate it because we know it is going to happen, but for Jesus' disciples it was not so. Jesus, with whom they had walked, eaten, slept, shared all his teachings and miracles, had died.

"But we had hoped that he was the one who was to redeem Israel..." S. Luke 24:21

This is an excerpt from the passage on the road to Emmaus; although the account corresponds to the day of the resurrection, it clearly describes what they were living and thinking when Christ died.

Jesus had astonished with his works and miracles. Raising the dead, giving sight to the blind, making the paralyzed walk, but many wanted more.

What more do we want from Jesus?

Jesus give me this, Jesus give me that, Jesus heal me, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. And if Jesus doesn't do it, what about my faith?

Performing miracles is one of Jesus' ways, but not the only way. Jesus could have done many miracles while he was arrested, scourged and crucified, but he didn't, because the real miracle was to give his life to God the father; and he did it so that we would do the same.

Today is a day of reflection, is Jesus the one who performs the miracles I ask of him or is he the one who left me teachings on how to live a true, pleasant and perfect life?

Let us celebrate our Sabbath day by asking the Lord to sensitize our hearts to all the teachings that Jesus left us; may that be the greatest and most important miracle in our lives.

God bless you!
